Saudi Mathematics Team Represents Kingdom at Prestigious IMO 2026

SHANGHAI — Saudi Arabia’s national mathematics team is representing the Kingdom at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026), one of the world’s most prestigious competitions for secondary school students, being held in Shanghai from July 10 to 21.

The Saudi delegation consists of six talented secondary school students who earned their places after completing a rigorous selection and training program organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in partnership with the Ministry of Education. More than 100 countries are participating in this year’s competition.

The students advanced through several qualification stages, beginning with the National Science and Mathematics Olympiad (NSMO) before taking part in a series of advanced training camps and specialized development programs.

Their preparation concluded with an intensive two-month training program led by experienced national and international mathematics Olympiad experts, focusing on advanced mathematical concepts, analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, and competition strategies.

Widely regarded as the world’s oldest and most respected mathematics competition for high school students, the IMO features two examination days, with participants solving six challenging mathematical problems across geometry, algebra, combinatorics, and number theory. Contestants are given four and a half hours to complete three problems each day.

The competition is designed to test participants’ logical reasoning, analytical abilities, and creativity in solving complex mathematical challenges.

Saudi Arabia’s participation reflects the Kingdom’s continued investment in developing talented young minds and strengthening its global presence in science, education, and innovation as part of its long-term human capability development goals.
