NEW YORK— Saudi Arabia has highlighted the achievements of Vision 2030 during the United Nations High-Level Political Forum, presenting the Kingdom’s third Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking at the forum, Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Alibrahim said Vision 2030 has transformed Saudi Arabia’s long-term development strategy by linking national reforms with the UN’s global sustainability goals. He described the Kingdom’s progress as the result of years of careful planning, institutional reform, and continuous evaluation.
Alibrahim noted that Saudi Arabia has made significant progress in diversifying its economy. Non-oil sectors now account for 55% of the Kingdom’s real GDP, compared to 45% when Vision 2030 was launched. Female workforce participation has also increased substantially, reaching 34%, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand economic opportunities.
The minister highlighted improvements in government services and digital transformation, pointing out that Saudi Arabia now ranks sixth globally in the UN E-Government Development Index, demonstrating advances in digital governance and public service delivery.
He also outlined achievements in key sectors, including water security, healthcare, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability. Saudi Arabia has expanded desalination capacity, improved healthcare coverage, increased renewable energy production, and strengthened environmental conservation initiatives under Vision 2030.
Alibrahim emphasized the Kingdom’s international contributions as well, including development projects, humanitarian assistance, clean energy investments, and global health initiatives supporting communities around the world.
While acknowledging that further work remains in areas such as productivity, financial inclusion, and public health, the minister said Saudi Arabia will continue focusing on innovation, economic diversification, and sustainable growth to achieve the objectives of Vision 2030.
