JEDDAH — The meteorological summer season in Saudi Arabia is nearing its end, with autumn set to begin on September 1, according to Hussain Al-Qahtani, spokesperson for the National Center for Meteorology (NCM).

Al-Qahtani said the transition to autumn will mark the beginning of a period of changing weather patterns and relatively moderate temperatures in the coming months.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter account on Wednesday, Al-Qahtani noted that climate indicators show September has historically been the fourth-hottest month of the year in terms of average temperatures, despite marking the start of the seasonal transition toward autumn.

He also said September records the lowest average rainfall in the Kingdom, with average annual rainfall of approximately 1.64 mm.

September is considered the beginning of the transitional period between summer and autumn, during which weather conditions gradually change ahead of the arrival of more moderate temperatures in the following months.

Meanwhile, the NCM’s daily weather report for Wednesday forecast thunderstorms accompanied by active winds in parts of the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions.

Temperatures are expected to remain high across parts of the Eastern Province and Riyadh, while active winds carrying dust and sand are forecast to affect parts of these regions, as well as areas of Najran, the Northern Borders, Hail, Qassim, Madinah, and Makkah.
