RIYADH — More than 26.34 million passengers used public bus services across Saudi Arabia’s cities and governorates during the second quarter of 2026, marking a 23.2 percent increase compared with the same period last year, according to the Transport General Authority (TGA).

The TGA said the increase reflects growing demand for public bus transportation within cities, supported by technical systems and equipment designed to meet high operational standards.

According to the authority’s quarterly bulletin, Riyadh recorded the highest ridership, with 20.07 million passengers, followed by Makkah with 2.97 million and Jeddah with 1.19 million.

The Dammam metropolitan area and Qatif Governorate recorded about 835,000 passengers, while Madinah registered approximately 490,000.

Other cities and regions also recorded significant ridership, including Qassim with 273,000 passengers, Taif with 194,000, Al-Ahsa with 135,000, Jazan with 120,000, and Tabuk with 56,000.

The TGA said the figures reflect its continued efforts, in cooperation with public- and private-sector partners, to improve public transportation services, enhance operational efficiency, and expand bus network coverage to more neighborhoods and key destinations across the Kingdom.
