GEA Marks 10 Years of Cultural Development and Transformation
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) is marking its 10th anniversary this month after a decade of contributing to the Kingdom’s cultural and entertainment transformation.
Since its establishment in May 2016, the GEA has worked to regulate entertainment activities, issue licenses, support investors, and strengthen cooperation between different sectors to help build a sustainable entertainment industry, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The authority has also focused on developing national talent through specialized programs aimed at preparing Saudi professionals for leadership roles within the entertainment sector.
One of the GEA’s most significant achievements has been the launch of Riyadh Season in 2019. Over six editions, the event has grown into one of the world’s leading entertainment festivals and an internationally recognized brand.
The brand value of Riyadh Season is estimated at $3.2 billion, highlighting its rapid growth and increasing global popularity.
The Joy Awards have also become one of the authority’s major annual events, attracting prominent Arab and international stars while gaining wide public and media attention.
As part of efforts to expand the Kingdom’s entertainment offerings, Saudi Arabia introduced the entertainment destination “Beast Land” in partnership with well-known content creator MrBeast, reflecting the country’s aim to develop innovative entertainment experiences with global appeal.
GEA Chairman Turki Alalshikh thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a post on X on Wednesday for their continued support in advancing the Kingdom’s entertainment sector.
He stated that over the past decade, the entertainment ecosystem in Saudi Arabia has expanded through more than 39 seasons and 21 entertainment programs, delivering diverse experiences to over 320 million visitors and strengthening the Kingdom’s international presence in the entertainment industry.
Today, the GEA continues to move forward with a long-term vision by expanding its initiatives and developing projects that support the future growth of Saudi Arabia’s entertainment sector.
