Saudi-Russian Visa-Free Travel Agreement Comes into Effect

RIYADH: A mutual visa exemption agreement between Saudi Arabia and Russia officially came into effect on Monday, May 11, 2026, allowing citizens of both countries to travel without a visa for short-term visits.

The implementation of the agreement reflects the continued cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Russia and their shared interest in promoting tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries.

The agreement applies to diplomatic, special, and ordinary passport holders, making Russia the first country to have a visa exemption arrangement with Saudi Arabia that also includes ordinary passports.

The visa exemption does not apply to individuals traveling for employment, study, residency, or Hajj purposes. Travelers in these categories are still required to obtain the appropriate visa before entering the country.

Under the agreement, citizens of Saudi Arabia and Russia may travel without a visa for purposes such as tourism, business visits, or visiting relatives and friends.

Eligible travelers are permitted to stay for up to 90 consecutive days or for multiple visits totaling 90 days within a single calendar year.

The agreement comes into effect during the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Russia.

The new arrangement is expected to encourage greater travel between the two countries while supporting tourism, cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and collaboration across various sectors.
