RIYADH — More than 6.5 million vehicles underwent periodic technical inspections across Saudi Arabia in 2025, marking an increase of approximately 500,000 vehicles compared to the previous year, according to the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO).

SASO also reported receiving 37,690 reports related to periodic technical inspection stations during 2025.

The organization said the year witnessed significant expansion in the periodic vehicle inspection network, with new stations opened in Al-Nabhania, Rafha, Sarat Abidah, Al-Zulfi, Bish, Duba, Shaqra, Al-Aflaj, Samtah, Al-Muzahamiya, Al-Khobar, Al-Muthnib, Afeef and Madinah. Two express inspection lanes were also opened in Dammam and Riyadh.

According to SASO, the expansion helped increase population coverage of periodic vehicle inspection services within an 80-kilometer radius to 85 percent of the Kingdom’s population. The organization said the current operating model relies on partnerships with six private-sector entities to provide inspection services.

SASO conducted 644 field inspection tours of vehicle inspection centers during the year, in addition to six specialized technical investigations aimed at verifying irregularities that could affect vehicle safety. The organization also provided relevant authorities with specialized technical reports based on its findings.

To strengthen oversight, SASO said it is implementing a smart monitoring model through a technical system that connects all vehicle inspection centers, tracks vehicles throughout the inspection process and analyzes performance and compliance indicators in real time.
