JEDDAH — Rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of Saudi Arabia from Wednesday through the end of the week, with moderate to heavy showers forecast in some areas, according to the National Center for Meteorology (NCM).

An animated weather map released by the NCM showed that light to moderate rain is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon over western Najran, southern parts of the Eastern Province and areas along the western coast.

Later in the afternoon, rainfall along the western coast, stretching from north of Jazan to Taif in the Makkah region, is expected to intensify. At the same time, rainfall in the Eastern Province and Najran is forecast to weaken gradually before disappearing. By Wednesday evening, rain is expected to clear across the Kingdom.

On Thursday afternoon, light to moderate rain is forecast over southern Asir, while lighter showers may affect Taif and surrounding areas in the Makkah region, as well as small parts of southern areas of the Eastern Province and Najran.

Rainfall along the western coast is expected to strengthen again later Thursday afternoon, while showers in other affected areas gradually weaken. Rain is forecast to continue along the western coast into the evening, with lighter showers extending to parts of Tabuk, Al-Jouf and the Northern Borders region.

The NCM expects rainfall to clear from most areas later Thursday evening.

By late Friday evening, light showers are forecast to return to parts of Tabuk, Al-Jouf and the Northern Borders, with some rainfall also expected in parts of Madinah. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rain is forecast over Taif and surrounding areas in Makkah, as well as parts of Abha and the surrounding areas in Asir.

Early Saturday morning, most of the rainfall is expected to subside, although light showers could remain over limited areas of the Northern Borders and Hail.

The remaining rainfall is forecast to clear later Saturday morning before returning to some of the same areas during the afternoon. The weather system is then expected to move out completely by late Saturday evening.
