Saudi Government Performance Improves in Q1 2026, Says Economic Council
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Council of Economic and Development Affairs said government entities recorded improved performance in achieving Vision 2030 targets during the first quarter of 2026 compared with the final quarter of 2025.
During a videoconference meeting, the council reviewed a report from the Ministry of Economy and Planning on global and regional economic developments and their impact on the Saudi economy.
The report highlighted the resilience of the Kingdom’s economy and the flexibility of its logistics sector amid global challenges. It also pointed to the positive effects of government policies, including inflation remaining among the world’s lowest and continued trade surpluses supported by export growth, helping advance Vision 2030 objectives.
The council also reviewed a quarterly assessment from the National Center for Performance Measurement (Adaa), which evaluated government entities’ progress in implementing Vision 2030 initiatives and performance indicators during the first quarter of 2026.
According to the report, the share of government initiatives that are on track or completed increased compared with the fourth quarter of 2025. Continued efforts are also underway to support government agencies, address challenges, and monitor corrective action plans to further enhance public sector performance.
In addition, the council discussed the annual report of the Ministerial Committee for Traffic Safety, which reviewed road safety performance as part of the Health Sector Transformation Program and Vision 2030.
The report examined long-term accident trends, strategic targets through 2027, regional traffic safety assessments, and the committee’s major achievements. It noted that Saudi Arabia has reduced road traffic fatalities by more than 60% in 2025 compared with 2016 levels through coordinated government efforts.
The council said work will continue to improve road safety, enhance quality of life, and protect the health and safety of citizens and residents.
Members also reviewed several administrative and strategic topics, including the proposed organizational framework for the Industrial Council, updates on the Umrah season health situation, Saudi Arabia’s participation in the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, progress on attracting regional and international organizations to establish headquarters in the Kingdom, performance in the UN E-Government Development Index, governance and compliance initiatives, and the latest foreign trade developments.
The council concluded the meeting by issuing the necessary decisions and recommendations on the matters discussed.
