SHANGHAI — Saudi Arabia’s Mathematics Team recorded its strongest-ever performance at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) by winning six medals, increasing the Kingdom’s total number of international mathematics awards to 88.

Competing at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026) in Shanghai, China, the Saudi team secured three silver medals and three bronze medals in an event that featured 666 students representing 117 countries.

Yousef Ayman Bakhit from the Royal Commission Education in Yanbu, Abdulsalam Abdullah Al-Sulami from the Madinah General Directorate of Education, and Abdulilah Mohammed Al-Saqqaf from the Jeddah General Directorate of Education each earned a silver medal.

The bronze medals were awarded to Elias Shaker Al-Faraj, Abdullah Tariq Al-Amer from the Eastern Province General Directorate of Education, and Faris Mohammed Al-Kunhail from the Riyadh General Directorate of Education.

The students underwent a year-long qualification and training program organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in partnership with the Ministry of Education through the Mawhiba International Olympiads Program.

The program combines advanced theoretical learning, practical problem-solving, and intensive training camps held inside and outside Saudi Arabia to prepare talented students for international mathematics competitions.

First launched in Romania in 1959, the International Mathematical Olympiad is recognized as the world’s oldest and most prestigious mathematics competition for secondary school students.
